Set in the future, Divergent is a series about a 16 year old girl who has to decide where she fits in society.
Scientific experiments have caused humanity to evolve into people with one dominant personality trait, either intelligence, kindness, courage, honesty or selflessness. The population is divided into factions, according to those traits; Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless and Erudite. When children are 16, they choose which faction they believe they belong in. Before choosing, they are given an aptitude test to determine their dominant personality trait. It’s during this aptitude test that Beatrice finds out she is Divergent; she has traits of all factions. Seeing as this anomaly is considered dangerous, she is told to hid it. Unfortunately, word gets out and events unfold, causing the collapse of their society. Between war, betrayal, and death, there’s also love, friendship, and victory. The story is divided into 3 parts, each book tells one part, but they’re all connected. This set contains 3 first edition paperbacks. |

Veronica Roth werd in 1988 geboren in New York. Ze groeide echter op in de buurt van Chicago en ze studeerde creatief schrijven aan Northwestern University. In de kerstvakantie van haar laatste jaar schreef ze Divergent. Ze had de publicatierechten al verkocht voordat ze was afgestudeerd. Na het succes van The Hunger Games waren dystopische young adult boeken zeer populair en Divergent had daar profijt van. Het werd een bestseller. Het boek was dus meteen een groot succes en er werden meer dan vijf miljoen exemplaren verkocht. Hierna bleef zij voornamelijk boeken schrijven in de wereld die zij had gecreëerd in Divergent.
Naast de Divergent trilogie heeft Roth meer young adult boeken geschreven, waaronder Four, een versie van Divergent vanuit het perspectief van Four, de liefdesinteresse van Tris. Ze heeft ook haar eerste boek buiten de young adult categorie gepubliceerd: Chosen Ones. |
