Korte samenvatting |
Due to experimentation with genes, humans have evolved to having one main characteristic, either intelligence, kindness, courage, honesty or selflessness. After this happened, a war broke out between the different factions, each thinking their predominant trait was the best. In a world that has been decimated by nuclear waste, another experiment was implemented. Put a population in a city and let nature take over.
In this city, a 16-year-old girl must choose where she belongs in society. A choice made more difficult by the fact that, when she takes a test to determine her predominant trait, she does not belong to any one predetermined faction. She then has to deal with almost impossible choices, learning to deal with people different backgrounds and ideas, standing up for herself and finding her strength, friendship and betrayal, and love in all different forms. She discovers that the world and those in charge are not what she thought they would be, friends can’t always be trusted, people are fallible, and that the world is bigger than it seems. This book deals with themes such as Identity, Family, Courage, Social classes. This is the first book in a trilogy. Consisting of Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant. The book Four is also part of this world, but it’s written from another character’s point of view. This book contains Divergent Bonus Material. |

Recensies |
The Guardian: “The book was very intriguing from the very start to the end. The plot line was unique and kept me reading. Many people say it is just like The Hunger Games, but I have read and enjoyed both books and I can tell you they are very different.”
Fantasy book review: “Well-written, with solid prose and an emotional and thematic depth.” |
