The events at Geneva in 1964 cast doubt on the whole system of organisation of world trade under GATT. In response to this, Problems of the World Economy was written as an examination of the world economy as it was in the 1960s. The goal was to predict the ways the world economy was likely to change in the 1970s. In this book, Richard Bailey explains the status of both the economic and the political factors of the day that he believes will impact the global economy. Along the way, he applies his significant experience in the various related fields. His task was to tie together the great number of problems which steer the future of the world economy together. To this end, he looks closely at topics such as regional blocs, the British Commonwealth, and the possible influence of powerhouse countries Russia and China on Africa and Asia in the context of world trade. |

Richard Bailey is een Economisch Consultant en schrijver, en was ooit Directeur van Political and Economic Planning (wat nu deel is van Policy Studies Institute). Van 1946 tot 1966 werkte hij als Speciaal Adviseur voor National Economic Development Council. Hij heeft naar veel verschillende landen gereisd, waaronder meerdere bezoeken aan Afrikaanse landen om advies te geven aan overheden. Daarbij heeft hij heeft enquêtes uitgevoerd voor internationale organisaties. Hij is lid van de Senate of London University. Richard Bailey heeft onder andere geschreven: Promoting Commonwealth Development (Hutchinson, 1970), Energy — the Rude Awakening (McGraw-Hill, 1977), en The European Connection (Pergamon, 1983). Hij is getrouwd en woont in Westminster. |
