Korte samenvatting
The Nazi Revolution: Germany’s guilt or Germany’s fate? attempts to take a closer look at the rise of Nazism in Germany. It’s hard to delve deeper into the Nazi movement without acknowledging the massive importance Adolf Hitler played in the movement’s rise and shaping of its structure. But experts disagree on how big of a part his personality played compared to less personal traits.

His personality was significant and he had one of a kind personal strengths and weaknesses.

The base on which Hitler’s success was built was his own energy and prowess as a political leader. His genius in politics lay in understanding the importance and power propaganda and what can be achieved with it.

He had to learn it all the hard way by going to small back-rooms and halls to speak to audiences. There, he learned to read a room and then knew what to say to win them over. “He could play like a virtuoso on the well-tempered piano of lower middleclass hearts.” Says Dr. Schacht.

Over de auteur
John Leslie Snell jr. (1923-1972) was a historian, academic administrator and defender of academic freedom. He was born in Plymouth, Washington County. He enrolled in 1940 at the University of North Carolina but left to become a bomber pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was stationed in Europe and flew over thirty combat missions, winning the Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross and five battle stars. In 1945 he returned to the University of North Carolina and quickly received three degrees, B.A. in history in 1946, M.A. in 1947 and his Ph.D. in 1950.

He gained notice with two studies. In The Meaning of Yalta, he and a few contributors challenged right-wing allegations that the current sitting President Franklin D. Roosevelt “sold out” to the Russians at the Yalta conference.

The other study was The Education of Historians in the United States.

During the two years he spent on this study he spoke to many leading historians.
