The Testaments is a dystopian novel written by Margaret Atwood and published in 2019. It serves as a sequel to her acclaimed 1985 novel The Handmaid’s Tale. Unlike its predecessor, which focused solely on the perspective of a Handmaid, The Testaments is told through the voices of three women, each with a different relationship to Gilead.
The first narrator is Aunt Lydia, a powerful and enigmatic figure who helped establish Gilead’s regime but now keeps a dangerous secret.
