Korte samenvatting |
The Wasp Factory follows sixteen-year-old Frank Cauldhame who lives with his father on a remote Scottish island. Their life is far from ordinary. Frank’s mother left them many years ago, his older brother Eric lives in a psychiatric hospital, and Frank himself, well, he’s killed three people before he was ten years old: Blyth, his younger brother Paul, and his young cousin Esmeralda. Now he lives his life by performing bizarre daily rituals.
Then the news breaks that Eric has escaped from the hospital. Frank has to prepare for his brother’s return – an event that shatters old mysteries and changes Frank completely. |
Recensies |
Neil Gaiman: “Will delight horror fans with its mixture of black humour and horrible, imaginative, beautiful deaths.”
Punch: “The Wasp Factory is a first novel not only of tremendous promise, but also of achievement, a minor masterpiece.” Irish Times: “There’s no denying the bizarre fertility of the author’s imagination: his brilliant dialogue, his cruel humour…”. |
