Over de auteur
Brain Glanville coverd the 1958,1962, 1966 and 1970 World Cup tournaments for The Sunday Times. His speciality has always been world soccer and he lived several years in Italy covering football for Corrier Dello Sport of Rome, etc. He scripted and part-edited the well-known film on the 1966 World Cup, Goal!, which won the British Film Academy’s Award as Best Documentary of the Year. His books Goalkeepers are Crazy and The Rise of Gerry Logan represent the first serious fiction written about professional soccer. The Footballer’s Companion (1962) is an exhaustive anthology of the best writing on the game, both here and in Europe, while in People in Sport (1967) he has produced a selection of the best from his own writings. Soccer, A Panorama (1969) is, as its name suggests, a full and compact world history of the game. So, in a shorter way, his Puffin Book of Football.
